A Name That Tells a Story
The Town of Unadilla takes its nickname, u201cThe Meeting Place,u201d directly from its town seal u2014 an image of a Native American and a colonial settler meeting at the water's edge, beneath a rising sun and mountain ridge. The seal reflects the Town's location at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Unadilla Rivers, long a natural crossroads for the people who have called this valley home.nnThat spirit of meeting and community continues today. Residents gather at Town Board meetings, at the Town Court, and through the everyday work of the Town Clerk, Assessor, and Highway Department u2014 the offices that keep local government close to the people it serves.
Geography
Situated in Otsego County in Upstate New York, the Town of Unadilla borders the Susquehanna and Unadilla Rivers, giving the community its name and much of its character. The Village of Sidney and the wider Southern Tier region lie nearby, connecting Unadilla to the rhythms of rural New York life u2014 farmland, waterways, and small-town main streets.
Local Government
The Town operates under a Town Supervisor and a four-member Town Board, supported by an appointed Town Clerk, Assessor, Highway Superintendent, Tax Collector, and Town Court. Board meetings are open to the public and held monthly, giving residents a direct voice in local decisions.nnTo protect an orderly and respectful process, public comment periods during Board meetings are limited to three minutes per speaker, and personnel matters are not discussed in open session in order to protect employee privacy.
